Vogue: 1224 and 7027

This has been a very productive sewing week and weekend. I managed to complete a dress, finish a pair of shorts I started last year, alter a skirt that I made last month and begin a new dress.  I can’t remember the last time I got this much sewing done.  Maybe the heat has something to do with it.  I haven’t been able to walk in the evenings the last couple of days due to the heat.   We have had a couple of heat alerts in my neck of the woods.

Vogue 1224

 Project Stats:

Pattern Description:
Partially lined, pullover dress has short dolman sleeves, elasticized waistline and neckline with tie ends, stitched hems and above mid-knee length.
Pattern Size: 24 with modifications
Fabric:  ITY Knit and Stretch Sheer Mesh from fabric.com. This is an abstract print so there wasn’t really anything to match.  I just made sure that the semi circles was not coming across the bust, the stomach and the hips.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made a full bust adjustment, lengthen the front top to meet my waistline, added 5 inches to the hem, added an inch to the front and back side seams. I lengthen the sleeves an inch because the pattern sleeve length was ending at the fullest part of my arms.  This ITY knit is a soft knit, so I did follow the pattern with a lining.  I also omitted the casting and use the seam of the skirt and top as a casing for the elastic.  I used steam-a-seam on the sleeve hem and hem line to give stability to the hems before stitching.  The last item I added was a belt.
Would you sew it again? Maybe, I like the pattern but don’t see a need for more than one.

I completed a UFO from last year. Out-of-Print Vogue 7027.  This is a short and pants pattern by Sandra Betzina.  I started these shorts last year. But can’t remember why I didn’t complete them.  I need a couple of pair of shorts for an upcoming golf weekend.  So, I pulled out these shorts.  I’m happy to report I had to take in the waist.  Yay….the inches are coming off, but the weight is taking it’s sweet time. It’s always the pounds that’s last to get on board. LOL  Also, I took in the waist of a skirt that I made last month. Although I do not like alteration, I’m happy to do these alteration.

I started working on Vogue 1220.  I’ve always like shirt dresses, so this pattern really caught my eye.  But it was a challenge to complete the pattern adjustments that I needed to make.  I got a little discouraged and put it down for a minute.  But after reading the comments I received on patternreview and my blog on vogue 1250 and my black linen pants, it gave me the encouragement to go back and tackle this pattern.  I have made good progress and the adjustments are working. More details coming soon.
