One Year Blogiversary – Sewing Room Update 1

You may be thinking the jeans contest wore me completely out.  No, I’ve been very busy and haven’t  had much time to sew.  However, I would like to thank everyone for all the encouraging comments on my jeans.

I’m just realizing that last month was my one year blogiversary. So, I thought I would share a sewing room update since my sewing room was my first post.

The Bookcase:

Well the Billy bookcase that I purchased from Ikea didn’t cut the mustard. I went to move the bookcase and the shelves collapsed and broke.  It was beyond repair.  Now, I’m not sure if this was an operator error or a quality issue.  Since I feel I’m pretty good at assembling furniture, I’m leaning towards a quality issue.  I replaced my bookcase  with a bookcase from Target.  I found the carson collection on Target’s website. The bookcases received 4.75 stars in reviews, so I  decided to waited for a sale.  I  purchased  a  3 and 5 shelf for my home office in espresso and a 3 shelf in white for my sewing room.  I’m very pleased with the bookcases. The assembly was easy, they look expensive and they add a decor to my rooms.

Vinyl Wall Art:
A very dear friend shared this website www.wallsneedlove.com.  They have all kinds of art work.  So when I saw ‘Sewing Mends the Soul’  I had to have it.

Thread Covers:
I have had  these  Mega Thread Racks for a very long time.  I have  always monitored  my thread for dust.  But recently,  I have been debating  whether to retired them and store my threads in drawers or some other form of closed storage.  One morning as I was applying my makeup, I had a light bulb moment.  I often get these moments when applying my makeup…go figure. The thought came to design a thread cover for my mega and cone racks.  My idea is to make a cover in the form of a fitted sheet.  The fabric in the picture is an Alexander Henry cotton that I purchases last year.  I saw several women with this fabric at PR Chicago weekend.  I just had to have it.  So, I purchased the white on black and black on white.  My original plan was  to make curtains for the sewing room.  But I think the fabric  will be better suited for my thread covers.  I going to use the white on black for the mega racks and the black on white for the cone rack. Stay tuned, thread covers coming soon.

Fabric Stash Organization:

Early  last year I did a fabric purge.  So I no longer have what I call a mega stash.  However, I do have a nice manageable stash that is stored on a four shelf open rack. I have been thinking about how I can best maximize the shelf space.  After looking at several websites/blogs on fabric storage, I decided to try the fabric organizers.

I purchased 18 to start. I wantwd  to see how they will work.  So far so good; I’m able wrap 6 yards of wool. It looks like I will be able to store more fabric per shelf.   My bulkier fabrics I’m going to continue to fold, but I will store them on the top shelf.

What I like about this, is that I’m able to see all my fabric a lot better.  I’m planning to purchase 50 more to finish my stash.  I’m excited to see how everything will look once compete.

New Additions:
Last year I replaced my 20yr old Singer sewing machine and Bernina Fun Lock serger.  I purchased a Brother Project Runway 420 and Bother 1034D serger.  This year I’m planning to add Bother 2340CV cover stitch serger.

Well that’s all for my sewing room update.  Now, I need to start on my Easter outfit  and white blouse.

Until next time…….keep sewing!!!
