Butterick 5391: Black Linen Pants

I got a lot accomplished this past week.  I finished a pair of black linen pants I’ve been working on and managed to get 2 dresses cut out.  Hip Hip Hooray!!!  It such a good feeling for me to complete a garment and have another in the queue ready to sew.

Taking a morning break!

Butterick 5391: Misses’/Misses’ Petite Skirt And Pants

I always like to have at least two to three pair’s of linen pants for the summer.  Well, I was in need of a black pair.  So instead of purchasing a pair, I decided to make my own this summer.   The last pair of pants that I made, I use a Connie Crawford pattern B5222 Post.   I liked the pattern, but I wanted a pattern that would give me more options with leg widths. (bootleg, straight, tapered , etc)  I have tried adjusting leg widths, but have such a problem with the grain afterwards.  We all have that one sewing technique that for reason will not come together.  Adjusting legs widths is mine.  urrrrgh!

When I saw this pattern, I wanted to do the happy dance.  But, I was in an environment where the happy dance would not be appreciated.  So, I went to the ladies room and did the happy dance.  The patterns has all the leg options that I  like, it goes up to a size 24 (which is a great starting place for me) and it’s petitable.  I felt like I hit the lottery.

Project Stats:
1. Fabric : Black Linen – Fashion Fabric Club and Black Bemberg Rayon Lining
2. Pattern Size :  Size 24/ View D with adjustments
3. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I added an inch to the hip and thigh area. I made a sway back/ full hip and prominent abdomen adjustment. I used cotton twill tape to stabilize the waist. A technique I learned from Sandra Betzina.I forgot to adjust the crotch area. So, my crotch area is a little long.
4. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the different pants options the pattern  provides.  I also like that it is petitable.  Overall a good fit for me. I would have like the pattern instructions to include adding a fly guard.  I know how to add a fly guard, but I think it’s a good technique to include.  A fly guard gives your pants a professional look in my opinion.
5. Would you sew it again?  Definitely will be sewing it again.  I will be using this pattern as a basic pants pattern.

Next in the queue,  Tracy Reese 1224  in this  abstract print from fabric.com
