Vogue V2913 & Jeans Journey Intro

This past weekend I completed  V2913.  A pants pattern by Sandra Betzina. This pattern is available on the OOP section of Vogue patterns.   I find that I like her pants pattern for a couple of reasons.  First, I like that the  instructions include graphical fitting and design tips.  Such as protruding hips, sway back, full front thigh, how  to add a wider leg, etc.  Second, I like the size range. It really gives room to have a custom fit without having to add more width.  Picture’s of me wearing my pants will come in the next post.  I really do not like trying to take pictures of myself with my iPhone.  So, I will wait patiently for the weekend.  Really looking at getting a tripod for my camera.
Description:  Straight-legged, fitted pants have contour waistband and fly closure
Fabric:  Wool/Lycra from Fashion Fabric Club.  (I thought the color would be a deeper taupe)
Design Changes:  I increased the leg width.  I prefer a fuller leg. WOW, I finally successfully completed that change.  I also added a lining, which changed the waistband application.  The pattern has a 3 piece waistband. You apply the waistband to each pant part. (Ex. left/right front and back)  This makes for easier alterations.  Since I added lining, I sew the 3 pieces into one and applied the waistband as one piece.  Vogue Pattern Magazine Dec/Jan issue had a good article on lining pants.  I followed the tips in that article.   Something I discovered is that I have been sewing my pants lining with a 5/8 inch SA instead  of 1/2 inch.  That change did make a difference.
Fit Alterations:  I made a protruding hip adjustment and a full front thigh adjustment.  I should have added a swayback adjustment.  I thought the protruding hip would cover the swayback. When I tried on my muslin it looked like my sway back was covered.  But, I still had a little puddling in the back.  So, I will include the swayback adjustment on the next pair.
Would I make again:  Yes, I really like the fit of this pattern.  I have a second pair cut out already.
As I mention in my last post, I’m participating in the Jean’s contest  on patternreview.  All the supplies are in.  I found real RTW rivets and jean buttons at CastBullet.  For the top stitching, I decided to use a jeans twin needle.  My very dark blue denim/Lycra is from Vogue fabrics. Purchased the fabric last year’s PR Chicago Weekend.  I have begun making my pattern adjustments.  Since I’m using another Sandra Betzina pattern, I know were to make my adjustments. Stay Tuned.

Until next time………keep sewing
