WOW!! I just finished posting my jeans on patternreview. I can’t believe it, I finished my jeans. I have to admit, when I started this project I wasn’t sure of the outcome. But I’m happy with my jeans. Before I talk more about my jeans journey, I owe you a picture of my pants V2913.
Remember in my last post I mentioned that I was thinking about getting a tripod? Well, I was talking with my Dad about a week ago. I mentioned I was thinking about purchasing a tripod for my camera. His response “no need, I have three tripods’. I was happy to hear that, but I was also wondering why I didn’t I know he owned tripods. So, I borrowed one of his tripods. Borrow is code for I now claim ownership. lol
The Jeans:
Description: Boot-legged or straight-legged jeans have below waist contour front waistband and back yoke, double-sided front pockets with button trim, fly closure, narrow or wide belt carriers and top stitching details.
Fabric: Denimlycra from Vogue fabrics
Fit Alterations: The same alterations I made in V2913
The Journey:
I debated whether to use a muslin. I decided not to since I had just made a pair of pants by Sandra Betzina. This made me a little nervous, but I took a deep breath and cut my denim.
This pattern includes a pocket stay for abdomen support, so I chose a cute cotton print for the pocket stay and pockets. But I forgot to flip the stay pattern to the wrong side. So, my pocket stay shows the the wrong side of my cotton. When I noticed, it was to late. Hmmm oh well, at least my pockets are pretty on the inside.

The top stitching was a little laborious. It would have been great to have had a second machine. I considered my old singer, but realized not a good option. So, I changed between top stitching thread and sewing thread. It wasn’t that bad because my machine has an automatic threader and its easy to thread. So I was able to switch and re-thread in @ 2 minutes. My plan was to use a double needle, but I only had one spool of the top stitching thread. I had purchased this thread from BBlack and Sons a while back. So, I used my edge joining foot a lot. Actually me and my edge joining foot became as one. lol
Lastly, I chose patch pockets versus the zippered pockets. I kept my pockets basic. I like the less is more concept when it comes to my jeans. I also placed the belt carriers on the outside of waistband instead within the waistband. I didn’t like the bulk that created in the waistband.
Overall, I enjoyed making these jeans. Now, I’m ready for a pair of trouser jeans.

Congratulations on sewing a pair of jeans. They look great. This is something I hope to achieve this year but so far I have purchased a pattern and that's it!! I think I am scared….
