My Winter Shirt Dress

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year!! I hope your holidays were filled with love, joy and some relaxation.

When I think about a black dress, my mind immediately goes to something formal or a particular style. For example a sheath or a fitted bodice with a full or slim skirt. I have a black sheath in my wardrobe that I absolutely love. That dress has taken me just about everywhere from a classy dinner to a formal business meeting. But it’s not a dress I would wear to the office, out shopping, etc. So I want something a little more casual. How about a jersey shirt dress?

Right now my go to shirt dress pattern for knits is OOP M6520.  What I like about the pattern is that there’s an A-line dress version. I tend to gravitate to A-line styles.  I made a short sleeve floral version awhile back.  Here is the link for details of this dress. https://thecraftydba.com/2012/09/13/vacation-is-over-m6520-is-complete/

The only change I made to the pattern, was in the sleeves. I didn’t want a cuff sleeve, so I tapered the sleeve and added a hem allowance. The fabric I selected was a black 14oz rayon jersey from emmaonesock. I’m so in love with this jersey. Also, I did not line this version.

I love the look a feel of my dress and look forward to wearing it this winter.

Until next time…………………keep making what makes you happy!!
