My Wrap Dress -V8896

Hello Everyone,

I hope all is well and good. Fall is here!šŸ I love this time of the year.Ā  The leaves are changing colors and revealing beautiful color palettes.Ā  Starbucks’s Pumpkin spice latte is in season.Ā  The smell of fireplaces being lit just makes me want to get a pot of my Italian vegetable soup on the stove.Ā  I could go on, but that’s not what I’m blogging about today.Ā  Ā

When you think about a wrap dress most of us think of designer Diane Von Furstenburg.Ā  Although I was a little girl when she debut theĀ  wrap dress in 1973,Ā  I remember when she brought it back in the late 90’s.Ā  In my opinion, the wrap dress is the quintessential of all dresses.Ā  All women can wear this design and it can go from formal to causal just by the selection of fabric.

My last project for the summer was Vogue V8896 wrap dress pattern.Ā  This pattern has been on my summer list for awhile.Ā  I like the gathers at the shoulders and the A-line skirt. However, finding the right print didnā€™t seem like it would happen until I can across this Telio stretch bamboo rayon jersey print at Fabric.com.Ā  It’s a medium weight jersey and a joy to sew.Ā  I love this print so much, I also brought it in black/white.Ā

For construction, I stabilize the shoulders with knit stay tape.Ā  I also underlined the top of the dress with a stretch knit interfacing.Ā  I wanted a little more body in the top without affecting the drape of the fabric.Ā  So, Pro-Tricot Deluxe by Fashion Sewing Supply was my choice.

Another feature of this pattern that I like, is that the sizes go up to a 24.Ā  For me, that meant I didn’t have to add width in the hip area. However, there were a few pattern adjustments I had to make.Ā  First, a full bust adjustment.Ā  I choose a no dart technique. Second, a swayback adjustment. Third, a full hip adjustment. Also known as a protruding hip. I use the wedge technique on the skirt back. This gave me the length of fabric I needed to come over my hips. Last, I had shorten the skirt and waist length.

In conclusion, I very happy with my dress.Ā  It fits and feel wonderful on my body.Ā  It’s moments like these that deepens my love of sewing.

PS….This was my first photo shoot using my IPhone X on my tripod.Ā  It was fun taking pictures in my backyard.Ā  I have some learning to do on lighting, but overall not bad.Ā  Ā Also it’s very liberating, now I don’t to wait for help.Ā  Now that I think about it, no more excuses why I can’t get blog. LOL!!

Until next time……….keep creating what makes you happy!!!!
