More Color Blocking Part 1 – V1329

I can’t believe that next week is the end of August. Where is the time going?  Well, currently I’m working on V1329.  I think I have mentioned that I am a Kay Unger fan.  I have most of her patterns in my collection. What I like most next to the design, is that her designs include the plus size women.
When V1329 came out this past spring, I knew this one would move to the top of my Kay Unger queue.  The Feb/Mar 2013 issue of Vogue Patterns Magazine debut it in black with a black and white houndstooth. I just fell in love with the combination.

I wanted this dress in linen but I didn’t think I would find this combination in linen. So, I begin to consider other combinations. I can’t even begin to tell you the number of color block combinations I went through for this dress in my head. But, nothing really appealed to me.
One night I couldn’t sleep. So I decided to cruise the Internet for fabric and tweak the side bar of my blog. I remembered a fabric store that I visited when I was in Asheville, NC. Why this store can to me I don’t know. But at the time they did not have a ecommerce website. So I googled just out of curiosity. There it was ,a website for Waechter’s Fine Fabrics.
So I begin exploring the website. I came to the linen section and there were the usual basic colors.  I was looking to buy more black linen. I had just used the last in my stash for my linen pants. I scrolled further and  I saw her, a black and white linen gingham.(close enough) I felt tears coming so I reached for a Kleenex.  I made the purchase and begin working on my dress.

Below is a preview of my dress.  I need to tweak the fit a little more and add the lining.  Goal is to have it done for church Sunday.

Until next time…………..keep sewing!!!!!

  1. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? I've bookmarked Waechter's also. Looks like a great fabric source. Your dress hits the mark. Happy Sewing!
