The Goodies

My latest project is pants.  I ‘m  currently working on perfecting the fit.  I am using my reference book “Pants That Fit”  by Singer.  I have just about every book from their sewing reference library and  I’m using  Vogue V7881.  But more about that on my next post.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have purchase a few goodies for my sewing room.

The New Iron:

I have been a Rowenta die hard for as last long as I can remember.  But it seems lately, I have had to replace my irons more frequently.  So this time I decided to try Reliable instead.  I purchased the V100 Digital Velocity from All Brands.  I must stay I really like this iron.  First it is heavier than any Rowenta that I’ve owned.  Second, I like that I can override the  automatic shut-off.   Third, I like that it let’s me know when it has reached the temperature I’ve set.  Last, I like that there is different levels of steam.  Next on  my list is the Reliable S330 Empressa Steam Ironing Press .

DVD:

I  purchased Claire Schaeffer DVD Couture Techniques Workshop Basics from Threads Magazine.  This DVD is awesome!!!  I found myself practicing a couple of hand stitches that were some what new to me.  I will be adding a few more hand needles to my tool kit.  If you are interested in learning couture techniques or looking to brush up on a few techniques, then I highly recommend this DVD.  The next DVD on my list, Threads Archive DVD.

Patterns:

I saw this vintage pattern in Threads 153 from decadesofstyle.com. It is the perfect addition to my spring/summer collection. The pattern was a little pricey, but worth it.  I’m envisioning a linen outfit in taupe with black top stitching and a black pencil skirt.

Software:
I found this really cool application on the Itunes app store call the sewing-kit.  I downloaded the app to my IPod Touch. This app is really cool. You can inventory you patterns, fabric, and projects.  Right now I am using it for pattern inventory. What I really like is that the application will go out to the patterns companies website to download the picture of the pattern you are adding.  Of course you will have to take a picture if the pattern is out of stock.  I think I just found  my reason to upgrade to the newest IPod Touch with camera. Just need to decide if I want 32 or 64 GB.  šŸ™‚  Here is a screenshot.

Fabric:

I received this beautiful chocolate/gold metallic rayon jersey from emmaonesock. I really like how Linda packages the fabric that I purchase.  My fabric came folded in tissue paper. It just made getting the fabric all the more special. Anyway, I’m planning to make the short sleeve criss cross front version of butterick B5497.  This will be my jazzy summer top.

Well those are the goodies that I have purchased.  Next post will be on my pants.

Until next time………keep sewing!!!
